Top Outdoor Activities at Twin Rivers Park – What to Do This Year?

As an outdoor enthusiast with over 7 years of experience hiking, kayaking, and camping across the Pacific Northwest. I’m delighted to share my top recommendations for making the most out of Twin Rivers Park this year.

Nestled alongside two rivers in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Twin Rivers Park offers over 100 acres of diverse terrain perfect for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and families alike. From kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding on the slow-moving rivers to hiking scenic trails with river views. Here are my top things to do at Twin Rivers Park in 2024.

Kayak or Stand-Up Paddleboard on the Rivers

Top Outdoor Activities at Twin Rivers Park - What to Do This Year?

Having paddled for years across Washington and Oregon, I can definitively say that Twin Rivers Park provides some of the most easy-going and family-friendly paddling opportunities. With slow currents and sandy beaches, the north and south forks of the Snoqualmie River are ideal places to kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) while taking in gorgeous mountain vistas.

I like to launch my kayak from the boat launch near the park entrance and paddle upstream as far as I can before floating back down leisurely. This stretch of calm water is perfect for beginners and kids while providing enough distance for more advanced paddlers. The diversity of birds and views of Mt. Si make for an unforgettable experience on the water.

Hike Scenic Trails Alongside the Rivers

In addition to water activities, Twin Rivers Park boasts over 3 miles of trails that wind through forested areas and along the rivers. As an avid hiker who has trekked all over Washington, these trails rate as some of my absolute favorites for their combination of lush greenery, river access, and mountain views.

The Riverview Trail is a moderate 2-mile loop that showcases the best scenery and terrain the park has to offer. I like to walk this trail in the early morning when the rivers glisten and wildlife is active. Look for signs of beaver activity along the riverbanks! For a shorter but still rewarding hike, the 1-mile River Access trail provides views of the south fork of the Snoqualmie and makes for the perfect family-friendly adventure.

Go Birdwatching for Unique Species

With its rivers and surrounding wetlands. Twin Rivers Park harbors an impressive diversity of bird species that I frequently spot during my outings. As an amateur birder for the past 5 years. Some of my favorite sightings here include bald eagles, belted kingfishers, song sparrows, spotted towhees, and even the occasional blue heron or wood duck.

I recommend bringing binoculars and quietly exploring along the water’s edge early in the day to catch sight of birds feeding and nesting. Don’t forget to look up too for birds of prey like osprey and eagles that frequent the rivers! With over 100 species documented here, Twin Rivers Park is a regional hotspot for birding that keeps me coming back.

Have a Family Picnic in the Day-Use Area

After working up an appetite from paddling, hiking, or birdwatching. Twin Rivers Park has plenty of picnic spots to choose from along its day-use area and trails. As a dad who loves getting outside with my family, I appreciate the variety of picnic tables and open grassy areas perfect for an afternoon meal.

Some of my favorite picnic memories at Twin Rivers have been grilling up hot dogs and enjoying a simple meal while watching ducks drift along the river. Pack a lunch or pick up some tasty snacks from nearby Snoqualmie, and make it a full day enjoying everything this special park has to offer with your loved ones. Quality time together in nature – what could be better?

As an avid camper who has set up my tent everywhere from the Olympic Peninsula to the high country of the Cascades. The campsites at Twin Rivers rank among the most scenic.

The park has 7 primitive campsites nestled under the forest canopy within view of the rivers. I like to stay at site #3 right along the South Fork riverbank and fall asleep to the gentle sounds of the running water.
